ELECTION DAY

The upcoming Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010.

Not in Town?

If you or someone you know will not be in town during the voting period of the Toronto Municipal Election on Monday, October 25, 2010 but do not want to miss the opportunity of participating in making George Smitherman the next mayor of our great city then you can still make your vote count.


The First Option

Advance Voting will be available to residents of the City of Toronto if they cannot make it on Election Day for whatever reason. Those people who cannot attend on Election Day can opt to vote in advance starting on:

 

Weekday Advance Vote:
(10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
Tuesday, October 5, 2010
Wednesday, October 6, 2010
Thursday, October 7, 2010
Friday, October 8, 2010
Tuesday, October 12, 2010
Wednesday, October 13, 2010

 
Weekend Advance Vote:
(10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
Saturday, October 16, 2010
Sunday, October 17, 2010
  

The Second Option

Voters can also choose to get a Proxy Vote Certificate if they are not going to be present for Advance Voting or Election Day.  Proxy Certificates are issued so that someone who is a qualified elector can appoint someone else that is also qualified to vote on their behalf. Proxy Vote Certificates can be obtained at the City Clerk’s office on the following days:

Proxy certificates are available on the following days: (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)

  • Monday, September 13, 2010 to Monday, October 4, 2010
  • Saturday, October 9, 2010 to Monday, October 11, 2010
  • Thursday, October 14, 2010 to Friday, October 15, 2010
  • Monday, October 18, 2010 to Monday, October 25, 2010

Proxy certificates are available on the following days:  (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)

  • Tuesday, October 5, 2010 to Friday, October 8, 2010
  • Tuesday, October 12, 2010 to Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Proxy certificates are available on the following days:  (12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.)

  • Saturday, October 16, 2010 to Sunday, October 17, 2010


Getting a Proxy Certificate:

(a) Proxy Certificates can be picked up on the above dates at the following City Clerk Offices starting Monday September 13, 2010 at:

100 Queen Street West
Toronto ON M5H 2N2
North-west corner of Queen Street West and Bay Street

 
Etobicoke Civic Centre
399 The West Mall
Toronto ON M9C 2Y2
South-east corner of Burnhamthorpe and The West Mall

On the west side of Yonge Street, five blocks north of Sheppard Avenue

(b) Proxy Certificates can also be mailed to voters by calling the Election Information Line at 416-338-1111.


The Third Option

Voters however who will be leaving town before Monday September 13, 2010 and would still like to have their vote count can download and print out the following Appointment for Voting Proxy form from the Government of Ontario website (Appointment for Voting Proxy). Upon completing the form it must then be taken to one of the City Clerk’s Offices listed above for approval.

Please note:

  1. The person on your behalf will be responsible for voting in your place and carrying out your wishes.
  2. In addition both voters and those acting as proxies should be prepared to have the necessary identification available (refer to Proxy Voting website below).
  3. Please refer to the following websites for more information on these matters and other important information regarding Proxy Certificates.
